Farmer of the year: Heinrich Meusel is in the final | Regional

Neuhaus / Rennweg (Thuringia) – Almost like in a fairy tale … This farmer turns hay into money!

With his company “Heu-Heinrich” (16 employees) Heinrich Meusel (33) is in the final for the title “Farmer of the Year”, which will be awarded in Berlin today. “I am immensely proud,” he said to BILD. “My idea to process high-quality hay from the colorful Thuringian mountain meadows was a success.”

With him, the dried grass becomes fragrant organic herbal hay. Valuable cosmetics such as skin oil, ointments and lotions are made from hay flowers. And a wellness hay bath is also provided.

“But turning hay into money does not automatically mean having money like hay,” says Meusel, who founded his first company at the age of 18. “Spinning straw into gold doesn’t work. It’s hard work for us. “

“Heu-Heinrich” grew step by step: 13 years ago he built a large hall in Scheibe-Alsbach, there has been a farm shop since this year, gourmet cooks discovered the special aroma in his mountain meadow hay.

Meusel: “I am a fighter, but one who doesn’t put everything on one card.” His role models? “The family: My great-grandfather was a hay dealer, my grandpa Hermann a recognized professor and director of the botanical garden in Halle.”

His father Florian is the boss of the Thuringian Forest Nature Park.
