Berlin, Madrid While the omicron subvariant BA.5 is spreading more and more, concerns about a corona summer wave in Germany are increasing. “Our simulations show that the development in Portugal could also occur in Germany – in the form of a summer wave,” said researcher Sebastian Müller to Handelsblatt. He is a member of a working group at the TU Berlin headed by Kai Nagel, which is modeling the course of the pandemic.
According to the simulation, the number of new infections would increase again noticeably in the second half of June. Then BA.5 is the dominant virus variant. However, it is still too early to calculate the exact number of new infections. “We assume that it will be below the level of the omicron wave,” said Müller.
