‘Euro Rate’ in Pharmaceutical Prices Increased by 36 Percent

With a President’s Decision in today’s issue of the Official Gazette, a new step was taken regarding the drug shortage crisis in Turkey. The euro rate for the drug, which is determined in February every year, was determined two months earlier this year.

In today’s issue of the Official Gazette Presidential Decision No. 6546 and the euro rate in the pharmaceutical sector was updated. Accordingly, the value of 1 euro in TL equivalent, 36.77 percent increased. The euro rate to be applied for price-protected products was 37.10 TL, and 19.39 TL for other products.

The Euro rate update was made in February in previous years, and the drug shortage crisis was resolved. This year delayed decisionNaturally, it will bring about an increase in prices, but it will also partially solve the problem of not finding drugs. By the way; Let’s also mention that the President’s Decision, which came into force as of today, will be implemented as of tomorrow. That is, drugs 15 December 2022 As of today, it will be sold at current prices, that is, at an increased price.

Well, if drug prices are going to go up, why is this good news?

In fact, it is not the first time that Turkey has faced the ‘can’t find medicine’ crisis. The reason for this crisis is simply current euro rateIt happens that the price of drugs rises significantly above the euro rate determined for drug prices. Suppliers who want to sell their medicines at the current euro rate naturally cause a ‘drug shortage’ in the market.

The regulation on the pricing of medicinal products for human use, which was published in February under normal conditions and two months ago this year, brings the prices of medicines closer to the current euro exchange rate and ensures that medicines reach pharmacies from suppliers again. Of course as a result of this ‘update’ drug prices are rising. However, it is also possible to obtain medicine at least.

Fahrettin Koca made a statement on Twitter after the arrangement.
