EU wants to defuse planned sanctions against third countries

Scholz does not intend to participate in the fighter jet coalition

Chancellor Olaf Scholz sees no German contribution to the debate about an alliance for the delivery of Western fighter jets to Ukraine. “We’ve focused on that and we’re focused on what we’re doing. This is very relevant now for Ukraine’s ability to defend itself,” said the SPD politician on Wednesday in Reykjavik on the sidelines of the Council of Europe summit.

He mentioned tank deliveries, the maintenance of weapon systems, ammunition and the strengthening of air defenses against Russian attacks. Germany has already made further commitments in these areas.

Scholz replied to the question that Germany would participate in the joint alliance announced by the Netherlands, Great Britain and France for the training of fighter jet pilots and the delivery of fighter jets.
