Epic Games, known as the developer of Fortnite and Unreal Engine game engine, is awash with a new hacking attempt. A hacker group claimed that they managed to access 189 GB of company documents.
189 GB hack claim for Epic Games
Epic Games said it is investigating allegations that a ransomware group named Mogilevich broke into its systems and stole large amounts of data. In the message published online, Mogilevich stated that he “silently carried out an attack” on Epic Games servers.
Accordingly, he announced that he had seized 189 GB of the company’s data, including emails, passwords, payment information and source code.
The group said the data was for sale. Although no specific ransom amount was requested, Epic gave Games until March 4 for payment. Epic Games stated in its statement that it could not find any evidence to support Mogilevich’s claims.

A company spokesperson stated that Epic began investigating after seeing the allegations. “Mogilievich did not contact Epic or provide any evidence as to the veracity of these claims. “When we saw these allegations, we began investigating within minutes and reached out to Mogilevich for evidence, but they did not respond,” he said.
If this claim is true, the newly emerged ransomware operation, which announced its formation just two weeks ago, would be Mogilevich’s largest attempt yet. The group has previously claimed to have also attacked the websites of automotive company Infiniti USA, customer review platform Bazaarvoice and Ireland’s foreign affairs department.
