End of an era! Nikon has closed the DSLR era

According to a report that came out today, Nikon stops developing DSLR cameras. Instead, it will now focus on mirrorless models only. Already 2 years ago, the D6 model, which went on sale in June of 2020, was the last mirrored camera. Therefore, this decision was not surprising.

Nikon will focus on mirrorless camera development instead of DSLR!

As we mentioned, Nikon is lowering the shutters of its DSLR R&D center so as not to open it. However, this does not mean that the production of these devices will stop and they will be withdrawn from the market. Because the production and sale of popular models such as the D6 and D3500 will continue. But new generations of these machines will not come.

The main reason behind Nikon’s decision is the return on sales. The company has been producing professional cameras since 1948. Although it lost its market share to its competitors periodically, this has never happened among the products within itself.

However, in recent years, most of the sales have been directed in that direction as the prices of mirrorless cameras have fallen from the extreme levels and approached the DSLR. In other words, in the past, a big slice of the pie fell on DSLRs. But now mirrorless models have taken almost all the cake.

As such, Nikon decided to stop its R&D activities for mirrors. However, as we mentioned, there is still a small demand for this side. For this reason, the production of devices released in 2020 will continue for a while.
