With the Regulation on the Management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, the way for the import of refurbished electronic goods has been paved.

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has made an extremely important decision. published in the Official Gazette “Regulation on the Management of Waste Electrical and Electronic EquipmentWith ”, the way for the import of renewed electronic goods has been opened.

With the said decision, waste electrical and electronic goods, as well as renewed electrical and electronic goods, can now be imported. On the other hand, there were some remarkable details in the regulation.

Import of used or refurbished EEE

ARTICLE 26- (1) In matters related to the import of used or refurbished electrical and electronic goods, the conditions in ANNEX-5 must be met in order to prove that the goods are not waste.

(2) Import of used or refurbished EEEs that are proven not to be WEEE in accordance with the first paragraph is carried out in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Commerce regarding import permits.

(3) In cases where used or refurbished EEEs are hesitant to be WEEE; all expenses for necessary operations such as analysis and control, including storage costs in warehouses, are borne by the manufacturers, third parties acting on their behalf or other persons arranging the shipment of used EEEs suspected to be WEEE.

ARTICLE 27- (1) In the works and transactions related to the import of AEEEs, actions are taken within the framework of the waste import issues determined in the Waste Management Regulation.

While only phones and tablets can be renewed in Turkey, all kinds of refurbished devices can be imported from abroad:

In our country, the scope of refurbished electronic products consists only of phones and tablets, and they are only allowed to be renewed through licensed establishments. However, the regulation did not include such a restriction on electronic products that can be imported.

So exactly which products can be imported?

Large household goods, small household appliances, information and telecommunication equipment, consumer equipment, lighting equipment, electrical and electronic equipment (excluding large and fixed industrial appliances), toys, entertainment and sports equipment, medical devices, monitoring and control instruments and vending machines can be imported. .

Who will control the imports? What conditions will be sought?
