Dusseldorf Anyone who changes their job voluntarily and beyond their own comfort zone can expect an average of a third more salary in Germany. This is suggested by a study by the strategy consultancy McKinsey, which was available to the Handelsblatt in advance.

Accordingly, the potential for salary increases is particularly high if many additional skills have to be learned in the new job. “We see that those who boldly and sensibly change jobs at regular intervals have a much steeper career and salary development,” says Angelika Reich, partner in McKinsey’s Vienna office and co-author of the international study entitled “Human Capital At Work: The Value of Experience”.

The average German employee changes jobs two to four times within ten years and receives five percent more salary per station. This includes internal and external changes, but also involuntary changes, such as after unemployment.
