Does Google Really Consider Turkey an Arab State?

Not a day goes by that the internet world does not come to the fore with a new delusion. On today’s agenda, there is the claim that Google shows Turkey as an Arab state. This claim is of course not true.

We are all used to the emergence of new claims on the Internet every day. Although some of these claims can be at least funny, some of them do not go beyond angering the society or causing interaction over the sensitivities of the society.

One of these posts is today. on twitter appeared before us. In a post, it was claimed that Turkey was shown among the Arab states in Google searches. Although the flag of some Arab countries and Turkey can be seen in the image after the search in the form of Arab states, the reason for this is different.

When you type ‘Arab states’ into Google, is the result really because Google thinks we are Arabs?

Answer is no. The situation here is actually due to a wonderful feature of Google that works very well in other areas: Similar searches. So let’s say you’re doing research on something, Google tells you “Look, those who searched for this topic also looked at this and that.” So you can see different alternatives.

Here, too, there is a use of the same feature. In the search made in the form of Arab states, the first of Wikipedia We see the relevant article and its map. On that map, while the Arab states are colored green, Turkey appears as gray.

Among similar searches Turkey also does not exist. Non-Arab states under Other User Searches Iranian (Persians) and Israel is also included. In other words, the situation we encounter here is not that Google considers us an Arab state, but a search recommendation based on the fact that our country is frequently searched with similar keywords or searches for our region.
