Username with the same name and number combination could be obtained thanks to case sensitivity. The company announced that they will prevent confusion by preventing this. A person who takes the username Veli#1234 in the old system will not be confused with others, as similar names such as VeLi#1234, vELi#1234 cannot be taken, thanks to the radical change to be made.
The username rules set by Discord are as follows:
- Lowercase letters (few)
- Numbers (0-9)
- Only “.” (period and “_” (underscore) characters
Another change that the company offers to users is about display names. Users will be able to change their display names within the framework of the rules set by Discord. A display name will be selectable, which can contain almost anything (as long as it complies with Community Guidelines), including special characters, spaces, emojis, and non-Latin characters. Note that display names will not be unique.
