Discord is changing the username system

Discord, which is among the most used social platforms in the world, has entered the process of change in the past weeks. Announcing the Voice Messages feature in April, Discord announced that it will remove the number part in usernames. The company will allow you to get custom username and display name.

Discord changes the system it developed for the username

With the new arrangement, users will not be able to share the names they set with others. Discord will eliminate the post # part in usernames, allowing everyone to differentiate on the platform.

The company, which published a blog post on the subject, said, “We know that our users have a hard time memorizing the four-digit code. On our platform, we want to offer you a more free environment by removing the case sensitivity we have set for usernames and the 4-digit number that comes after the username.” made statements.

Discord finally got the long-awaited feature!

Discord launched the long-awaited Voice Messages feature for mobile app users. So how is it used?

The company, which comes up with features similar to other social media platforms, pointed out that about 40 percent of users have difficulty finding their friends on Discord. Discord, which wants to prevent this situation and make the platform more useful, will allow taking a username within the framework of some rules.

Username with the same name and number combination could be obtained thanks to case sensitivity. The company announced that they will prevent confusion by preventing this. A person who takes the username Veli#1234 in the old system will not be confused with others, as similar names such as VeLi#1234, vELi#1234 cannot be taken, thanks to the radical change to be made.

The username rules set by Discord are as follows:

  • Lowercase letters (few)
  • Numbers (0-9)
  • Only “.” (period and “_” (underscore) characters

Another change that the company offers to users is about display names. Users will be able to change their display names within the framework of the rules set by Discord. A display name will be selectable, which can contain almost anything (as long as it complies with Community Guidelines), including special characters, spaces, emojis, and non-Latin characters. Note that display names will not be unique.

The company announced that usernames will become changeable next week. “In the coming weeks, we will start notifying users when they are able to update their account with a new username,” the company said in a statement. When it is your turn to change the username, you can perform your transaction.” statements were included.
