Munich Despite the chip crisis in the car industry, BMW sold significantly more cars in 2021 than in the first Corona year. The group’s sales, which in addition to the core brand BMW also include Mini, Rolls-Royce and motorcycles, rose by 8.4 percent to a good 2.5 million, as BMW announced on Wednesday.
The core brand BMW even achieved a sales record; sales increased by 9.1 percent to 2.2 million cars. With this, the Munich-based company regained the crown in the premium segment. For the current year, Sales Director Pieter Nota was also confident. “We want to continue to grow profitably in 2022.”
BMW benefited in particular from high demand in the USA, where sales soared by almost a fifth. In China, the Munich-based company sold 8.9 percent more cars. With a total of 846,237 cars sold, the People’s Republic is the largest single market. In Europe there was an increase of 3.9 percent. In Germany, however, sales fell by 6.8 percent.
