Munich The German stock market started trading on Friday with 14,360 points and thus with slight losses. However, the so-called Witches’ Sabbath, also known as the big day of expiration, is likely to cause increased tension in the first few hours of trading. Options and futures on indices and individual stocks expire this Friday.

“The big expiry day could accelerate the high volatility of the past few weeks in the German stock index again in the short term,” expects Jochen Stanzl from CMC Markets. Large investors in particular are likely to act nervously in the morning before the stock market traders turn to other topics again around noon when the expiry is over. Above all, the effects of the Ukraine war should then determine trade again.

Unless there are unexpected turns between the warring parties, the Dax is unlikely to rise higher than 14,568 points for the time being. That was the highest level since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
