When he speaks publicly about China, Siemens boss Roland Busch only finds words of praise. You have to treat the country “respectfully,” he said in an interview a few months ago. But when the doors close, Busch starts talking about the downside of the boom. China, he said a year ago at a meeting of business leaders at Deutsche Bank’s headquarters, has become the biggest risk.
Even then, Busch and the assembled managers feared that the economic areas of Europe/USA and China would drift apart, a so-called decoupling. This is jeopardizing the profitable network of factories and joint ventures that has been built up over the years.
