Meta, which has become the cornerstone of the social media world under the name Facebook, introduced the Threads platform to its users in 2023 to compete with Twitter(X). Some rules imposed by Meta regarding the platform, which attracted great interest in its first period, caused controversy.

Competition Authority filed a lawsuit against Meta for connecting Threads and Instagram

Meta introduced Threads as the “Correspondence section” of Instagram from day one. It attracted great attention when its release date coincided with the turbulent period of Twitter. However, Meta’s imposition that the Threads platform was a part of Instagram did not go unnoticed by the Competition Authority.

The preliminary investigation conducted into the allegation that Meta Platforms, Inc. violated Article 6 of the Law No. 4054 on the Protection of Competition by connecting its newly launched application called Threads with the Instagram application was decided by the Competition Board.

The Competition Board, which discussed the information, documents and findings obtained in the preliminary investigation at its meeting dated 23.11.2023, found the findings serious and sufficient; Meta Platforms Inc. It decided to open an investigation against him, number 23-54/1031-M.
