Berlin The number of infections is increasing again, and the third Corona autumn is beginning in Germany. Although there are initial warnings from the hospitals, there is also some reason for optimism. Everything seems different this fall – unless new variants throw a spanner in the works.
Why are the case numbers increasing?
In Germany, the omicron subline BA.5 still determines the course of infection. The reason for the increasing infections is not yet the new virus variants, the spread of which is only just beginning. Responsible for the increase are declining immunity in the population, the careless behavior of people and the effect of the onset of the cold season: the more people are in closed rooms with dry room air, the easier it is for viruses that affect the respiratory tract.
