Corona: First district shortly before the 1000 incidence – domestic policy

We thought we were through with the worst – but now the fourth corona wave is raging!

The RKI reports a new nationwide record for incidences (201.1, as of Monday), the available intensive care beds for adults are currently 10.7 percent (as of Friday). The trend is rising – and in some districts there is already a red alert!

Several districts are struggling with mega-high incidences, marching inexorably towards the 1000 mark.

► Sad front runner: the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains (Saxony), where the number of infected people per 100,000 inhabitants climbed to 924.3 within the last seven days. This is followed by the districts of Rottal-Inn (Bavaria, 833.3) and Mühldorf a. Inn (Bavaria, 831). Saxony, Thuringia and Bavaria are right at the top of the incidence table.

You can find an overview of all districts in the graphic above and in Dashboard of the RKI!

For the regions affected, this means above all: The intensive care units in hospitals threaten to fill up again shortly before Christmas – in some districts the limit has even been reached!

example Bavaria: According to the Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (Divi), the number of Covid patients in intensive care units has exceeded the critical mark of 600: Now the so-called hospital traffic light should jump to red. Four Bavarian regions are now considered “regional hotspots”. According to Divi, there were still 316 of the currently 3067 operable intensive care beds available in Bavaria. The 2G rule is now being significantly expanded throughout the Free State, unvaccinated people no longer have access to many events and facilities, even with a test.

example Thuringia: The intensive care units continue to run full. Most recently, an average of almost nine out of ten intensive care beds (88.1 percent) in the Free State were occupied. According to the Divi Register, there was a Covid 19 patient in almost every fifth (18.4 percent) bed. With 116 Covid 19 cases treated in intensive care, the number was far from the pandemic’s peak: In mid-April, around 220 corona patients were still being treated in the intensive care units.

The Germany overview of the infection status in Germany shows: Although the map has almost completely turned red again – in the east of the country, however, events are developing at a particularly rapid pace.

In order to get the situation under control again, the potential traffic light partners (SPD, Greens, FDP) have prepared a draft law that they want to present in the Bundestag on Monday in care facilities.

The “epidemic of particular importance” expires on November 25th – until then, the executive and future federal governments need a joint battle plan to get the exploding numbers under control again.
