After 2022, which we spent with allegations of data leaks, we continue to receive news with a similar level of horror in 2023. Now, according to a new claim, a hacker group stole the data of Middle East Technical University (METU).
A hacker group named KromSec claims to have leaked METU data
Last night around 10 o’clock, an account with the username @DailyDarkWeb shared a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter). In the shared post, it is claimed that a hacker group named KromSec leaked the data of METU, “one of the best universities in Turkey”.
In the post shared on the Dark Web, the hacker group named KromSec, which claims to have leaked METU’s data, says:
“Middle East Technical University is one of the best universities in the country. I wish their security level was ‘one of the best’ too!
METU’s university database, which contains dozens of students, academics and information systems, was leaked.
It’s a known fact that we love students 🙂
That’s why we share a table that includes only academics and remind the university administration that KromSec has entered their systems!

No official authority has yet made a statement regarding the allegation that METU’s data was leaked. However, Habib Karataş, a software developer who has made a name for himself in the data recovery industry, made the following statements under this post:
According to Karataş, the data leak occurred approximately 12 days ago and METU administration was contacted about this issue. However, it is alleged that the university administration did not take the situation seriously and KromSec decided to share the data it claimed to have leaked.
