Dusseldorf The Chinese metropolis of 13 million, Xi’an, has been cordoned off for five days – and German companies are now increasingly finding themselves in need. Since chip manufacturers such as Micron and Samsung produce in the city, there is growing concern that global delivery bottlenecks will worsen.
Companies such as the Bosch joint venture UAES have set up camp beds at the plant on which employees can sleep in order to maintain the production of vehicle components.
“We have turned our meeting rooms into dormitories,” reports plant manager Aytekin Bozkan to the Handelsblatt. “Most managers sleep in the plant,” says Bozkan.
The employees on the production lines were accommodated in a nearby hotel, which was connected to the plant in a so-called “quarantine bubble”. You can go home at any time, but then there is no way back into the bladder.
