When it comes to space ventures, China is undoubtedly among the most developed countries in the world. China’s National Space Administration (CNSA), which has pioneered the space journey of humanity with its many initiatives, is undertaking an initiative to protect the Earth this time.
CNSA will launch the “Asteroid Guidance System” project in 4 years
China’s National Space Administration (CNSA) is taking an initiative to protect the Earth from a possible asteroid impact. According to the news in the Chinese state news agency Global Times yesterday, Wu Yanhua, vice president of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), stated that they decided to start a planetary defense project as China.
Speaking at an event commemorating the launch of China’s first satellite Dongfanghong-1 in 1970, Wu Yanhua made some statements about the project. Yanhua stated that the idea known as “Kinetic Impact” lies at the heart of the planetary defense project in question.
The kinetic impact will be used to divert a large, high-speed spacecraft to the asteroid in question in case of potential danger. However, the project is still in the approval phase for now. If it proceeds as planned, the project will come to life in 2026.
On the other hand, this idea did not just come to China’s mind. NASA is currently testing a similarly-purposed project known as the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART). According to the plan, DART will be tested on a small asteroid called Dimorfos this summer.
