Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, released yesterday, pays a heartfelt tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, known for his role as Black Panther. Among the game’s many easter eggs, one stands out as a touching tribute.
Black Panther was not forgotten in Spider-Man 2
In the Midtown area, players will find the Wakandan Embassy, a familiar location from the Spider-Man 2 prequels. As Miles approaches the front door of the embassy, a prompt appears telling players to press △ to “Honour.” When activated, Miles solemnly crosses his arms over his chest and gives the iconic Wakanda Forever salute.
Although this interaction is brief, its emotional resonance is undeniable. Spider-Man 2 isn’t the first game to pay homage to Boseman. In Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which was released shortly after Boseman’s sudden death in 2020, the game included a touching message in the credits:
“In loving memory of a noble king, Chadwick Boseman. His dignity, strength and compassion will echo for generations to come. Wakanda forever.”
Additionally, the play renamed 42nd Street “Chadwick Way” as a nod to Boseman’s breakthrough portrayal of Jackie Robinson in the movie 42.
