Cellbricks organs from the 3D printer are on the verge of a therapy revolution

The start-up Cellbricks is working on a 3D printer for human tissue. In the Handelsblatt Disrupt podcast, tech reporter Larissa Holzki talks to Joachim von Arnim, co-head of Cellbricks, about the state of research, the financing of his company and the biggest leaps in biotechnology.

The team wants to build “the new Biontech”, says von Arnim. “If a woman develops breast cancer in a few years, we can reconstruct her breast with real cells.” Von Arnim believes that breast implants will be on the market within this decade. Printed organs made it to market within the next decade, he says.

In initial research projects, the team has provided evidence that the reproduction of cells using printing processes works. For example, together with scientists from the Berlin Institute of Health in the Charité, Cellbricks printed a biological wound closure.
