Market turns green: These altcoin projects gain momentum
The last 24 hours have been quite volatile for Bitcoin as it has risen by more than $6,000 at one point to over $44,000. Increasing price volatility across the entire crypto market has resulted in over $300 million in liquidations. Bitcoin’s 15% price increase was its biggest rise in a year. The “special military operation” launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin against its western neighbor caused major disruptions in financial markets last week.
BTC, a highly volatile and free-market asset, has dropped nearly $5,000 a day to just above its monthly low of $34,000. However, the cryptocurrency recovered so quickly the next day that no other country wanted to be directly involved in the ongoing war between the two former Soviet states. This led to a period of consolidation for BTC as the asset remained around $38,000 for several days. But yesterday the situation changed. BTC dropped from the aforementioned level, climbed above $40,000 and continued to climb to a 12-day high of just over $44,000. After gaining more than 15% in one day, Bitcoin recorded the most significant daily price increase since February 2021, when it increased by almost 20%.
Most altcoins produced even more substantial gains that led to numerous liquidations. According to data from Coinglass, more than 60,000 traders were liquidated in the past day and total liquidations are over $300 million. Meanwhile, Waves (WAVES) rose 38%, while DeFi coin THORChain (RUNE) rose 23.43%. Terra (LUNA) 20.46 percent, Theta Network (THETA) 18.73 percent, Neo (NEO) 17.33 percent, Phantom (FTM) 16.35 percent, VeChain (VET) 16.12 percent, Gala (GALA) 15.12 percent, Avalanche (AVAX) 14.79 percent, Kadena (KDA) rose 14.97 percent. Oasis (ROSE) gained 15.49 percent and Monero (XMR) gained 14.74 percent.
