Borsa Istanbul main index BIST 100 had a sell-out in the second week of September. The index, which had sales on Mondays and Wednesdays, provided investors with action-packed hours on Thursdays and Fridays.
Especially the other day, the BIST 100 index fluctuated between 7797 and 8118 points, causing confusion. Investors who expected a calm and slight rise after an eventful Thursday did not get what they expected. Borsa Istanbul decreased by -1.93% on the last day of the week. The index closed the week at 7,961 points. Thus, the weekly return of BIST 100 was -4.36%.
Will the Decline Continue?
BIST 100 index, which reached a new peak with 8400 points during the week, has gained 80% value since the elections. The dollar-based return of BIST 100 in the same period was approximately 30%. When we compare it with the stock markets of the USA, Europe and developing countries, we see that our stock market stands out.
When we examine the technical levels for the index, the support of 7,850 on a daily basis is of great importance. The stock market, which tested the support on Thursday, remained above this level for now with the purchases. If BIST 100 closes daily below this level, we can expect the correction to continue. In a possible worst case scenario, the next support is around 7,400 points.
For upward movements, 8,120 points may serve as a short-term resistance.
