Breaking point: Bitcoin inventor hacked GMX email account
BitMEX team recently published a report. In this context, he shared new details about the accounts of Bitcoin inventor Satoshi Nakamoto in 2014. One of these was the GMX email account of the mysterious Bitcoin founder. The incident occurred on September 8 of that year. The report disclosed emails exchanged between the hacker and former Bitcoin developer Gregory Maxwell.
The BitMEX team attempted to reconstruct how the hacker(s) carried out their criminal actions. They also explained what they found when they logged into Satoshi’s hacked account in 2014. According to the report, hackers took over three of Satoshi’s accounts that year. GMX account was just one of them. The other two were Satoshi’s account on the P2P Foundation forum and his account on the Sourceforge platform. Email box hacking seems to be the most important of the three. The important thing is that, according to the report, there are very few early Bitcoin-related emails out there and they are mostly filled with spam.

Satoshi left the Bitcoin code in the hands of a few developers and disappeared from the public domain. The first person to notice the attack was Theymos, the administrator of the Bitcoin Talk forum. He spread the news on the forum that Satoshi’s email account might have been hacked. Because a request for some BTC came from this mailbox: “Michael, send me some money before I shoot you.”
This was followed by a message on the P2P Foundation forum, posted from Satoshi’s account but clearly not from Nakamoto. The message addressed the real Satoshi and stated that “dox, passwords and IP addresses are sold on the darknet” and therefore his location may be known to hackers. The person who sent this message was urging Satoshi to escape from where he was. In this regard, “You are not safe. You need to get out of where you are as soon as possible before these people hurt you. Thank you for inventing Bitcoin.” it said. These messages raised many questions in the forums. It turned into heated arguments about Satoshi and what might have happened to him.
