Bitcoin Crisis in El Salvador: Hacker Group Leaks Information of Highly Praised BTC App

According to the development published by Cointelegraph, El Salvador’s state-run company known as Chivo Bitcoin His wallet became the target of hackers who exposed sensitive information about the wallet. Hacker group CiberInteligenciaSV published some of the source code on a black hat hacking forum called BreachForums on April 23.

This is the same group that leaked the personal data of 5.1 million Salvadorans just a few weeks ago.

“This time I bring you the code inside the Bitcoin Chivo Wallet ATMs in El Salvador, remember that this is a government wallet and as you know we do not sell it, we publish everything for you for free,” the group said.

This follows a series of Chivo-related hacks reported in early April, including the public exposure of personal data of 5.1 million Salvadorans, nearly the country’s entire adult population.

CiberInteligenciaSV also released the Codigo.rar file, which contains a compilation of code and VPN credentials from the Chivo Wallet ATM network.

El Salvador made history in September 2021 by becoming the first country in the world to accept Bitcoin as legal tender. The government introduced Chivo as the official BTC wallet for its citizens, allowing users to buy and sell Bitcoin as well as store and withdraw BTC from ATMs.
