He made a name for himself as Germany’s toughest corona fighter, cockily exclaiming the “team caution”.
But currently the Corona policy of Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (54, CSU) works more according to the motto: big notes, bad numbers! And one bankruptcy after the other …
On Monday, Söder switched his country to 2G mode. Even for 12 to 18 year olds there was no exception (BILD reported). After criticism from the Free Voters, Söder had to backtrack: Until the end of the year, underage students are allowed to do so without proof of vaccination. B. participate in sports training, music and theater rehearsals.
Reason for the new corona panic: Bavaria’s gruesome numbers!
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the Free State yesterday recorded the third highest incidence of all countries (348), only Saxony (484) and Thuringia (439) are higher.

In addition: According to the RKI, Bavaria has the lowest vaccination rate of all old federal states in the vulnerable over 60 age group: 83.2 percent. For comparison: NRW is 88.4 percent.
The result: nowhere are there proportionally so few intensive care beds available as in Bavaria (8.7 percent).
▶ ︎ For Bavaria’s FDP leader Martin Hagen (40), Söder’s corona policy is a “chilling example”. The prime minister tries to “compensate for bad results with wide-legged appearance”.
▶ ︎ The Bavarian SPD member of the Bundestag Uli Grötsch (46, SPD) warns in BILD: “If we don’t want to run into a triage without seeing eyes, Söder must now use his fourth opportunity and finally follow up his grandiose announcements with deeds.”
Söder’s call for a quick Corona summit has also so far been in vain. BILD learned: In an internal Union switching conference, even the representatives of Schleswig-Holstein and Baden-Württemberg were skeptical. Because: Nobody knows what Söder wants to achieve at an emergency summit.
When asked about Bavaria, Bremen’s mayor Andreas Bovenschulte (56, SPD) makes it clear in BILD: “It is not to be communicated to the population” if “exactly the same restrictions apply” in Germany despite massive regional differences.
Because: In Bavaria 65 percent of people are vaccinated, in Bremen (incidence 88) it is 79 percent.
