Austin, Dusseldorf At Tesla, people like to think big. Up to 15,000 invited guests are expected to come to the opening ceremony of the new Gigafactory near Austin in the US state of Texas on April 7 from 4 p.m. The planning was approved by the responsible district last Tuesday. Two thirds of the event will take place in the factory halls, one third outdoors. It’s over at midnight.
Tesla has just put its first European plant into operation in Grünheide near Berlin, and now the $1.1 billion factory called “Giga Texas” will follow directly. Both factories took around two years to complete. And like in Germany, there is also resistance from residents in Austin.
