Ingolstadt / Augsburg According to CEO Markus Duesmann, the car manufacturer Audi will not be able to completely make up for the production backlogs caused by the chip crisis. “So far, we have not been able to build a nearly six-digit number of cars that we would have liked to have made and we will not catch up with all of them,” said Duesmann of the “Augsburger Allgemeine” (Tuesday).
The problems continued well into next year. “We hope that by the end of the first half of 2022 we will achieve stabilization in production and chip delivery,” said Duesmann: “The chip crisis is costing us a record year.”
For the future, supply chains are to be checked and converted. “So we will revise the supply chain in order to secure billions of pieces of chips per year for our group, but we will not become a chip producer ourselves,” emphasized Duesmann.
To move away from internal combustion engines, Duesmann said that one had to withdraw from the readily available “drugs” oil and gas. “We have to go into withdrawal and switch to electric drives and sustainably generated energy,” he emphasized. “The next 30 to 40 years will have to change a lot so that the earth remains habitable. We have to do everything we can to significantly reduce CO2 emissions – and that can only be achieved by doing without fossil fuels such as coal or oil. “
