Las Vegas Technological progress makes many jobs superfluous. That has been known for a long time. But the types of jobs that are affected are changing radically. So far, the idea has been that machines can primarily replace physical tasks. But powerful algorithms are now able to create works of art, write texts or provide legal support.
The technology fair CES in Las Vegas was a showcase for the latest achievements in the use of artificial intelligence (AI). The chatbot ChatGPT can write essays on command, which can easily be used as technical texts.
Image generators like Stable Diffusion or Midjourney can create impressive works of art that have already won prizes in art competitions. And the start-up Donotpay is having a court case fought out by AI-based legal software for the first time in the USA.
These three examples only give a taste of how artificial intelligence will change the world of work. Many academics are still under the misconception that their jobs are relatively secure in view of the future changes in the working world. But this assumption is completely wrong. We are just at the beginning of what artificial intelligence can achieve in the future.

Those who are clever are already changing course today. Artists should see AI programs like Stable Diffusion or Midjourney as helpful support that can inspire their work – like a kind of digital brush.
Use the programs to improve work
Journalists or book authors should use text generators like ChatGPT, for example to overcome writer’s block and improve the quality of their texts. The programs can stimulate a meaningful competition for the best texts. And law firms should push the use of AI-based programs. Anyone who resists change is in danger of being overrun. Few have yet grasped the full extent of the change.

At the same time, there must be clear transparency as to when and where such programs are used. Misinformation has flooded the internet and social networks in recent years.
If millions of text generators are now also used, it is becoming increasingly difficult to identify genuine statements. Artists or lawyers should also be clear when they use AI in their work.
