Munich Concerns about the collapse of the German healthcare system are reviving radical demands. Because the statutory health insurance (GKV) is becoming a billion dollar grave, the SPD and the Greens want to raise the contribution assessment limit from which the maximum rate in the GKV is due.
The annual income limit should also increase as a result. If the earnings are above this limit, employees can switch to private health insurance (PKV). The threshold is currently EUR 66,600 gross per year. If it were increased, fewer people would be able to take out private insurance. The more exclusive the circle of privately insured people – currently there are around eight million people nationwide – the higher the contributions for individuals would be. Because the costs incurred, for example for treatments, are distributed among fewer people.
