When the first Airpods Max was released, many were surprised by Apple’s retro-style control dial inspired by the Apple Watch’s Digital Crown, avoiding touch controls. But according to a recently discovered patent Apple AirPods Max 2 with touch controls may come.
According to information revealed by Patently Apple, it seems likely that Apple will prefer touch controls instead of dials for its next over-ear headphone model. The latest patent shows how a touch-sensitive surface can be used to control a headphone-shaped device that looks incredibly similar to the AirPods Max.
AirPods Max 2 will come with touch control
Apple already has two more touch control patents: one with touch controls for volume, and the other on a smart fabric for on-ear headphones that can detect touch-based gestures.
While patents are never a confirmation of a particular feature or device being released, Apple spends the majority of its time. touch controls on wireless headphones spent to improve. However, he did not use any of the patents he received in his technological products.
Combined with touch controls becoming an increasingly common feature on both on-ear and wireless headphones (for example, AirPods 3 and of AirPods Pro (both have touch controls) we can say that the next Apple headphones will use this as well.
While the physical dial gives audiophiles a sense of reliability in addition to the older-style design aesthetic, it will be exciting to see how Apple modernizes its next over-ear headphones.
