Strategy Analytics has published a study on the state of image sensors in the smartphone world.

The premium smartphone industry has grown faster than the overall market

Counterpoint Research has announced that the global premium smartphone market grew by 24 percent last year, setting a new record. Premium smartphones, which managed to surpass the 7% growth experienced in the general market in 2021, also accounted for 27% of global smartphone sales. At the same time, it was emphasized in the report that this was also a record.

In the report, it was stated that the gap left by Huawei, which was blacklisted by the USA in 2019, left in China and Western Europe, and manufacturers such as Apple, OPPO, vivo and Samsung and Xiaomi are trying to fill. Apart from that, Apple took its place at the top of the global premium smartphone industry by increasing its market share to 60 percent for the first time since 2017, after the release of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models with 5G.

Compared to 2020, Samsung recorded a 6 percent growth in premium segment sales last year. However, the company’s market share decreased by 3 percent as its competitors started to attack. It was stated that the end of the Note series and the delays in the Galaxy S21 FE model caused this decrease.

We can say that the most profitable companies in the premium segment of 2021 are vivo and OPPO. Because the two companies managed to grow by 103 percent and 116 percent, respectively. Xiaomi, on the other hand, emerged with a 5% market share in the premium smartphone industry. Let’s also point out that Huawei, which is struggling with sanctions, is in the third place after Apple and Samsung with a market share of 6 percent.
