Protecting the climate can create growth and prosperity. The key are innovative business models, technologies, products, machines, systems and processes.
Dusseldorf Anyone who talks about climate protection these days likes to paint in gloomy colors. “Fridays for Future” accuses the SPD, the Greens and the FDP at the start of the coalition negotiations with a whitewashing “greening of government work”. Companies, especially those with high electricity consumption, warn of overly ambitious climate protection targets and ambitious solo efforts in Germany and Europe.
And shortly before the start of the World Climate Conference in Glasgow, the United Nations sounded the alarm: The plans of the participating states to reduce CO2 were insufficient, there was a threat of a temperature increase of 2.7 degrees by the end of the century. The hoped-for breakthrough in climate diplomacy is still a long time coming.
In view of this, Germany and Europe could leave their comparatively ambitious efforts to date. You could refer to other countries. But that would be the wrong attitude.
