Anne Spiegel had no other choice: her resignation as Federal Minister for Family Affairs was imperative. With her catastrophic defense strategy in the flood disaster affair, in which new spicy details came to light every hour, the Green politician had lost all trust.
Spiegel’s resignation is the second debacle for the traffic light within a few days after the voting failure on compulsory vaccination. The resignation of the Greens politician once again casts a very bad light on the still young government, for the first time on the Greens – and again on Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Similar to the Ukraine war, the chancellor also seems driven in the Spiegel affair. Only two hours before Spiegel’s resignation, Scholz had a spokeswoman say that he was working “trustfully” with the family minister. Almost immediately after this statement, Spiegel resigned. An embarrassment for Scholz.
