Annalena Baerbock’s mistake for climate policy

New State Secretary and Foreign Minister

The outcry is always great when someone moves from business to government. Jennifer Morgan is now to become the new State Secretary at the Federal Foreign Office. She is Executive Director at the eco-lobby organization Greenpeace.

The organization has long ceased to be a sympathetic grassroots movement fighting for a good cause. It has long been a kind of eco-ADAC, where the basic members have nothing to report and the well-paid officials set the tone.

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is taking a great risk with this personnel position – apart from the fact that according to local civil service law, nobody can become a civil servant who does not have German citizenship.

The change comes at a time when it is widely believed that the minister is gaining a foothold in office. However, the decision in favor of Morgan is reminiscent of Baerbock’s bankruptcy, bad luck and breakdown election campaign.
