An era is ending in LoL! Here’s the sad new rule

League of Legends, which was developed by Riot Games, founded by a small team that left Dota 2 in 2009, and has been the most popular MOBA game ever since, has undergone many fundamental changes to date. Runes have changed, items have changed, maps have changed, and now it’s time for the summoner names.

You will no longer be able to change your summoner name to your liking in LoL

According to Riot Games in a post published on its blog, summoner names will become history as of November 20, 2023. It will be replaced by a system called Riot ID. With this system, your username that appears when you open the Riot client will also be your summoner name in the game.

In addition, the summoner name can no longer be changed with the blue essence you obtain by breaking the champion crystals you obtain by playing the game. The rule of changing your ID once a month is also abolished. Now Riot ID can only be changed once a year.

Of course, this right is given free of charge, but if you want to change your Riot ID, you have to pay an amount of $ 10.

When the system changes, everyone will initially get the Riot ID they want, but the tag starting with # at the end of the ID will change. When this system arrives on November 20, we recommend that you choose your username wisely.

Riot Games explains the reason why they did this:

“The story of Runeterra, League of Legends, and Summoner’s Rift has changed over the years. Originally, players were Summoners, bringing the original roster of Champions to the valley. Ultimately this became limiting for the world and the characters within it, so in 2014 the focus shifted to the Champions themselves rather than the all-powerful Summoners.

The word summoner still appears in a few places; in sporadic voiceovers, occasional references and most importantly in the name of the valley. However, when it comes to players, the Summoner Name is not in the corpus, and it has been that way for a while now. “This update is designed to better align with the existing world of League of Legends, create greater cohesion between all our games, and technically streamline the way names work.”

In other words, with the increase in the number of games included in Riot Games, Riot wanted to take such a step, perhaps in the future we will be present in all Riot games with the same username. Additionally, the word ‘Summoner’, which is a tremendous job of the LoL Turkey localization team, no longer exists in the universe. This is another reason.
