In addition to Zalando and Amazon, the EU also rates the iPhone provider Apple and the Internet group Google as “Very Large Online Platforms” (VLOP).

Brussels After Zalando, Amazon is now also resisting classification as a very large Internet platform by the European Union. If other major retailers weren’t also subject to the associated increased regulation, it would be unfair treatment, the online retailer said on Tuesday.

The company doubts that it is a “Very Large Online Platform” (VLOP) within the meaning of the EU digital law DSA. A court should therefore revoke the classification.

The Digital Services Act (DSA) is intended to force online companies to take stronger action against hate speech and other illegal content on the Internet. To do this, VLOP must monitor the content on their pages more closely and establish risk management that is independently checked.

Manipulative practices that urge users to buy are prohibited, as is advertising aimed at children. In addition, large platforms should give users more influence over which ads are displayed to them in the future.
