Avalanche experiences network outage: Altcoin price drops

According to the status page, the outage is still ongoing at the time of this writing. The issue appears to be related to a pause in block finalization. Developers across the community are currently investing in a pause in block finalization that prevents blocks from being accepted by the Primary Network. Meanwhile, Kevin Sekniqi, one of the founders of Avalabs, made the following statement on the subject from his X account:

I’m currently investigating the Avalanche primary network block generation issue. It seems to be related to a new wave of inscriptions that started about an hour ago. Obviously this is an esoteric error caused by some edge cases that need to be addressed quickly. A mempool processing issue with inscriptions possibly hitting some untested edge cases.

After the statement, one of his followers said, “There should definitely be no extreme cases that have not been tested…” Sekniqi replied, “In the end, no. But there is such a wide range of code being sent all the time that it’s hard to manage. Everything is tested on test-nets. But test-net is not the same as main-net.” said. Meanwhile, Avalanche’s AVAX token plummeted as the network collapsed. The altcoin price decreased from $37.7 to $36.2.
