Metaverse, one of the most talked about technologies of recent times, continues to be used and adopted in every field.
A historic move towards the adoption of Metaverse has come from Barbados, an independent island country in the Southern Caribbean, one of the world’s friendliest countries in cryptocurrencies.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados announced that it will establish the first Metaverse-based embassy in the world and has signed an agreement for this with Decentraland (MANA), the most popular Blockchain protocol.
HE Gabriel Abed, the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Barbados, who led the country to establish an embassy in Metaverse, said that Barbados is working on building structures in various virtual worlds and purchasing digital land.
Alongside efforts to establish an embassy in the Metaverse, Abed is also working to establish Barbados’ first physical embassy in the Middle East.
The Barbados government’s Metaverse embassy plan was approved in August. The Council of Ministers stated that this project is seen as an important diplomatic opportunity by the government.
With the Metaverse embassy project expected to be implemented in January, Barbados will be the first country in the world to recognize digital sovereign lands.
In a first, the Metaverse embassy will allow for various projects, the designation and purchase of land, the architecture of virtual embassies and consulates, and the development of facilities to provide services such as e-visas.
Metaverse has been on the rise with the leadership of social media giant Facebook. After Facebook announced that it invested in Metaverse, giant names such as Nike and Microsoft turned to this area. After the moves of giant names, many Metaverse projects achieved success.
