Tokyo, Düsseldorf Marcelo Claure is considered to be the most important man in the Japanese conglomerate Softbank – alongside founder Masayoshi Son. Claure had accompanied the merger of the American mobile communications subsidiary Sprint with T-Mobile US, is soon to be promoted to the supervisory board of Deutsche Telekom and is considered the man for difficult cases within the Softbank universe.
But now a break threatens, reported the “New York Times” and the portal “Techcrunch” at the weekend, citing insiders. The reason: Claure is said to have demanded two billion dollars in compensation over the coming years. According to the information, Son offered a maximum of a double-digit million amount. Claure is said to have threatened to resign.
The 50-year-old manager comes from the telecommunications industry. The Brazilian-born economist set up Brightstar in the USA, a cell phone company geared towards Spanish-speaking US citizens. In 2014 he sold the company to Sprint.
