The mega comeback: first ABBA album in 40 years! – music

They took their time for almost 40 years …

The Swedish cult band Abba have released their latest studio album – the first since November 30, 1981!

On “Voyage” are the previously published songs “I Still Have Faith In You”, “Don’t Shut Me Down” and “Just A Notion” as well as seven other songs by Agnetha Fältskog (71), Björn Ulvaeus (76), Benny Andersson (74) and Anni-Frid “Frida” Lyngstad (75) can be heard.

It is the mega comeback of the year 2021 that the band’s loyal fans get excited. ABBA promised them the tried and tested sound of the 70s, which should still work almost forty years later.

It is the ninth studio album for the quartet from the far north. Since “The Visitors”, which appeared on November 30, 1981, nothing has come. After a last TV appearance in late 1982, the band had taken a break as a group that ultimately lasted decades – after eight studio albums and included world hits such as “Waterloo”, “Mamma Mia”, “SOS” and “Dancing Queen”. Since then there have been numerous Abba compilations, but not a whole album with fresh studio recordings.

ABBA had repeatedly indicated a return. But it took a while until Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid were convinced by their male colleagues.

Next year, the next big Abba project is due: At the multimedia show “Abba Voyage”, virtual images of the band members – so-called Abbatars – are to be used together with a live band in a specially created arena from the end of May 2022 London on stage.
