Dusseldorf In the new episode of Handelsblatt Disrupt, Handelsblatt editor-in-chief Sebastian Matthes talks to Silicon Valley correspondent Stephan Scheuer and tech reporter Larissa Holzki about the future of the technology scene, the background to the layoffs and future start-ups worth billions.
Holzki and Scheuer dispel the thesis that the technology sector is in crisis. Rather, the crisis is changing the dynamics of the start-up market. “We talk far too much about waves of layoffs, while more growth capital than ever before was invested in Europe in the first half of the year,” says Holzki.
Silicon Valley correspondent Scheuer adds: The start-up scene is moving away from “fast-moving, pumped-up business models towards real technology”. Scheuer also explains why Facebook’s business model no longer works and how Elon Musk disenchanted himself within days of the Twitter takeover.
