Recently, the vulnerability problems encountered in mobile applications published on the Google Play Store have started to increase. An important development in this regard was recorded with a new announcement made by the security research company Dr.Web. Dr.Web stated that a spyware targeting Android users, called ‘SpinOk’, has been detected in more than 100 Android applications. These apps threaten more than 400 million users in total. ‘SpinOk’ software has been found in many popular mobile applications!
The SpinOk malware is available as a mobile software development kit (SDK) for use by advertisers. Once installed on users’ devices, the software blatantly violates privacy rules by sending the user’s private data to a remote server, in addition to enabling the display of incognito ads. Completely stripped of an ethical understanding, the software also uses device sensors to verify that it collects real user data.
Although Dr.Web stated that most of the mobile applications containing the malicious software in question were removed by the Google Play Store, he pointed out that some of them are still in use. Emphasizing that users should review the list of harmful applications as soon as possible, the company stated that each released update should be installed after careful examination.
