World Cup 2022: A comment on the DFB-Aus from Oliver Bierhoff! Samer coming? | Sports

This step deserves respect!

Oliver Bierhoff (54) has terminated his contract with the DFB, which would have run until 2024.

In his statement it says: “After 18 years in responsible positions at the German Football Association, I have resigned from my position as Managing Director National Teams & Academy with immediate effect. I agreed on this today with President Bernd Neuendorf. I’m paving the way for setting new directions. (…) Some decisions that we believed in did not turn out to be the right ones. No one regrets that more than me. I take responsibility for that.”

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf added: “Oliver Bierhoff has rendered great services to the DFB. Even if the last tournaments fell short of the sporting goals, he stands for great moments. His work will always be associated with the World Cup success in Brazil. Even in turbulent times, he always pursued his goals and visions and left a lasting mark on the DFB. On behalf of the DFB employees, I would like to thank Oliver Bierhoff for everything he has done for us and for football in Germany.”

Like a circus seal This Brazil goal is pure samba!

He was responsible for three tournament disappointments in a row. Even no Bundesliga manager could have stayed in office with such an anti-run.

Like world champion coach Löw in 2021, Bierhoff recognized in time that his time was over.

He clears the way for new impulses in the national team – ideally for his European champion buddy from 1996, Matthias Sammer (55).

He has already proven that he can incite coaches to peak performance in the shortest possible time. In 2012, FC Bayern was in ruins (three times runner-up). Coach Heynckes was allowed to stay, Sammer as the new sports director was the ideal addition – the result of this duo: the treble a year later.

Time is short, the DFB cannot afford experiments. In 18 months we have a home EM! The fans want a second summer fairy tale and not a horror film.

If DFB President Bernd Neuendorf (61) and especially league representative Hans-Joachim Watzke (63) succeed in winning Sammer for a role close to the national team, that would be the ideal solution. Watzke’s good relationship with Sammer is well known, they work together at BVB.

If Hansi Flick (57) convincingly explains tomorrow how he intends to learn from his World Cup mistakes, it would be right to give him a second chance. Especially since trainer titan Jürgen Klopp (55) is not available.

President Neuendorf has brought calm to the shattered association before the Rainbow One Love disaster came, for which he is responsible with Bierhoff.

It’s important that he doesn’t repeat the mistakes of some of his predecessors and get involved in sport. The president is there for sports politics, the manager and the national coach for sports. That’s the only way!

If we could continue with a self-critical flick and a highly motivated Sammer after the resignation of the insightful Bierhoff, that would be the best possible perspective for the home EM 2024!
