Artemis I, carried out without a crew, is the first mission to use a new generation Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. The SLS rocket, which emerged with a budget of approximately 23 billion dollars, is described as the most important step for a crewed journey to the Moon and Mars.

The Orion spacecraft, which traveled about 1.4 million miles (2.4 million km) during the mission, was brought to Keneddy Space Base on December 30. Stating that they will examine the spacecraft by removing the heat shield, the authorities will perform a comprehensive analysis for the new mission.

NASA announced that they will also examine the test dummy Moonikin Campos, which it sent to Orion to collect data on how travel to the Moon could affect humans. Officials who made a statement on the subject said, “Artemis I was a big step forward as part of NASA’s lunar exploration efforts. The crew of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion are laying the groundwork for their next mission to fly around the Moon aboard Artemis II.” said.

NASA will announce its four-man crew to take part in the Artemis II mission in early 2023. Artemis II will set the stage for the first manned Moon landing since the end of the Apollo program in 1972, and eventually a permanent NASA presence on the Moon.
