Vienna Train journeys at night are becoming more comfortable. If you want to travel by train in an environmentally friendly way, you can look forward to the ultra-modern night trains that will start in summer for Austria’s state railway ÖBB and will also run from Munich to Rome.

At the Siemens Mobility Austria plant in Vienna-Simmering, plant boss Michael Leisgang proudly shows the chic dark blue painted Nightjets, which offer more comfort and privacy.

“We developed the trains together with ÖBB based on previous experience with night trains,” says the 40-year-old industrial engineer from Franconia, who manages the impressive, largely automated train production with around 800 employees.

The good news: Despite the delays caused by Corona and the Ukraine war, nine Nightjets are now largely complete. It has been agreed that all 33 trains ordered will be ready by the end of 2025.
