Dusseldorf There are a few celebrations coming up at Google these weeks as the internet giant celebrates its 25th anniversary. However, antitrust proceedings are likely to dampen the mood: the US government is accusing the company of anti-competitive behavior. After three years of preparation, the trial begins on Tuesday in a district court in Washington.

It’s a special case. For the first time, antitrust proceedings are taking place in the USA against one of the companies without which the Internet in its current form would be unthinkable – 25 years after Microsoft had to answer for antitrust violations. In addition, the possible consequences for Google and its parent company Alphabet are drastic.
