Berlin Life in Germany became more difficult again at the weekend. Anyone who is in bed with a bad cough or another respiratory disease can no longer call in sick. This has been possible almost continuously since March 2020. Because of the ending pandemic, the responsible Federal Joint Committee has now no longer extended the rule.
Some suspect that another reason played a role in the decision. The concern of suspicious bosses and health insurance companies that people abuse the rule, so only pretend an infection on the phone to take a few days off.
However, these assumptions cannot be proven, on the contrary. The telephone sick note has proven its worth. For patients, but also for general practitioners, it has become indispensable. That’s why she has to stay. Even Health Minister Karl Lauterbach sees it that way.
