Berlin Vaccination, speed limit, debt brake – the handwriting of the FDP is clearly visible in the traffic light government. In public, however, this is not credited to the party. The polls are bogging down. This makes the base nervous before the upcoming state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein – and sparks a debate about the election of the ministries.

During the corona crisis, the finance and education ministries were central departments, which is why the FDP campaigned hard for the posts. Since the Ukraine war, however, foreign, defense and economic policy have been the key issues. Has the FDP miscalculated? Or are there other reasons? An analysis.
