Berlin Work from Monday to Thursday and start the long weekend on Friday: In Belgium, employees should in future be entitled to spread their weekly working hours over four days instead of five. The government presented a corresponding draft law last week.
In Germany, this model has many followers. According to a Forsa survey commissioned by RTL and NTV, 71 percent of those surveyed would welcome it if it made a difference in Germany.
However, researchers and labor law experts are of the opinion that the model cannot be easily transferred to Germany. “This is due to the rigid German working time laws,” says specialist attorney Philipp Byers from the law firm Watson Farley & Williams.
